Which ones of the lower priced live up to their expectations of being a good quality headset? Below, we are going to break down a handful of headsets that we feel are worthy of making note of. I want to start out with my top pick. I know it is a little higher priced than some of the others mentioned below, but if you are out for quality and price is not as big of an issue, then I would look here first. The Sennheiser PC 350’s are among the best available. They do make a model that is significantly more expensive, but the overall benefit you get from purchasing those versus these is only a small amount based on the specs.

If you are serious about your PC gaming, then you will likely be playing your game of choice for hours at a time. Comfort is of huge importance for a lot of gamers out there. When you are done playing or practicing with your team, you want to be able to walk away and not feel your head pounding. The vast majority of people have found these to be very comfortable overall.

Another huge benefit to these headphones is obviously the sturdy build. The durability of a headset in my household is of upmost importance. Sennheiser backs this headset with a two year warranty. When I first got this headset out of the box, I was really impressed with the overall quality. It is a durable plastic and every piece is thick enough so that it doesn’t have a lot of give or play in it. For me, that meant that I wasn’t going to, yet again, roll over the headset and break it.

If I had to give one downside to the headset it would definitely be also one of the pluses about it. I found the earcups covered my ears entirely. It’s great considering I have kids, but I also found myself sometimes taking them off to let my ears cool off. During the summer, it was more noticeable than in the winter in my small office that tended to have a hard time staying cool in the summer. If you don’t mind your ears sweating, then it’s really not a big deal. Overall, the Sennheiser PC 350 is my top choice if money isn’t a huge issue for you.

Sennheiser PC 151

This is obviously the lower end model from Sennheiser when it comes to good gaming PC headsets. With that said, I bought a similar model to these about five years ago, I think they were the standard PC150’s that were running about $100 at the time. As you can see, prices have dropped dramatically, which is good news for someone who is interested in a good quality headset.

My immediate notice with this headset is the quality of the sound. At the time, I was using a cheap little headset I had bought from walmart, my teammates were frustrated because I wasn’t able to hear people behind me in Call of Duty. A teammate bought this style of headset for me. It was like a night and day difference, especially when I installed my little cheap turtle beach sound card. Overall, I found my level of play increased dramatically at that moment as well.

These headsets, much like the more expensive models of Sennheisers, are very durable. I actually kept these and used them for about two years. The only reason why they broke was my own fault. I ended up laying them on the floor because my desk was piled with Mountain Dew cans and dirty plates (see, I’m a gamer) and when I came back to my desk I accidentally rolled over the cord with my chair. They never worked after that. Overall though, by far one of the most durable headsets I have ever owned and far more durable than the $20 – $30 headsets you might buy at best buy or wal-mart.

Plantronics GameCom 367

Plantronics makes a lot of decent headsets. They are obviously not preferred brand of choice, but many people swear by them. I would say this headset particularly might be the most popular headset on the market right now. It isn’t necessarily the overall quality, but it is the quality you are getting at the price. For $21.99 you aren’t going to be able to find anything better than this.

The two pros to this headset are its overall quality and sound. The headset seems to be well built. It has very nice and thick top to it. So if your kids get a hold of it and one kid is pulling on one side and the other is pulling on the other side, it has a good chance of not breaking. You might be able to roll over these in your chair and not have a problem (see above).

Also, the sound quality plantronics provides is really good. They are a known company for good sound quality, and they didn’t leave you in the dust here. You are getting a good product in terms of sound quality.

The downside with this headset though would have to be its microphone. While the microphone will work well, you shouldn’t expect to be able to use it in a noisy environment. I found that while I had my kitchen in the dining room and a TV or kids were in the background, they were quickly and easily picked up by the microphone. Even when using a push to talk key, that can be annoying for people on the receiving end of it. With that said, if you have a nice quiet room, you want a good headset at a good price, this one is right for you!
